We LOOOOVE producing fun, out-of-the-box videos for kids and clients. Morning announcement videos? No problem! A funny promo about school construction? Easy! Produce a reality show about Creative Re-use? Hmmmmm….
Well, we’re always up for a challenge. So when our amazing client RESOURCE DEPOT wanted us to produce a series of videos that get kids excited about RE-USE, we thought that a short “reality style” piece might be a great way to explain the concept (and show off their cool location). They have a warehouse filled with stuff that others might consider junk, but the folks at Resource Depot make available to the community to create…whatever.
I put “reality style” in quotes, because we originally thought the piece would be a three minute spoof of a reality show. Ha! There was so much great stuff happening, that we just had to make it a full half-hour.
While I must admit that watching Project Runway and Top Chef are my not-so-secret guilty pleasures, I never thought that’s something we’d actually produce. We’re about telling stories, right? Sure that might be a story about golf cart scavenger hunts in Key West, but it’s still a story. There’s a beginning, middle, and end. Could we do the same thing with a reality show format?
Yes. Yes we can.
It’s still storytelling. But just as the kids in the video had to create something amazing from what others might view as junk, we had to dig through tons of footage to unearth the story gold that was buried under the surface.
We’re not releasing the full show yet, but here’s a sneak peek at the three minute demo. Hope you like it!
